I believe in being able to have the knowledge that you desire. I also believe that whenever you receive (wanted or unwanted) knowledge, that you should always be thankful. I learned this when I gained knowledge about the tooth fairy.
My tooth hurt really badly, and I wanted it to come out. I went to my mom to complain, and she asked if I wanted her to pull it out. Because I trusted that she wouldn’t hurt me, I said yes. Soon after she pulled the tooth out, she told me about two tooth fairies. The first one was the one who comes at night and exchanges money for my teeth (who gave me one quarter). The second one was my school’s tooth fairy, also known as the secretary, Mrs. Brisckey, who gave me a sparkly pencil and a mint. Afterwards, I felt both satisfied and thankful for the knowledge I had received.
What I realize now, is why my mom told me about the tooth fairy when she did. She told me then so that I could believe for as long as possible. When my mom told me, I felt like the most important kid in the family, because I was the first to learn about the tooth fairy (s). Because of that, I learned to be thankful for the knowledge that I have, and also for the knowledge that I receive. My mom told m then because I lost my first tooth, and I didn’t know it then, but she also told me then because she loves me.
I have used this experience to help me when I interact with others. Before, I would usually answer saying yes, no, maybe, sure, etc., and now, I share as much knowledge as I can in my answers without sounding weird. My mom is a great example of that because she told me about the tooth fairy. Its funny how that one experience with knowledge, helped me to determine how to use mine today.
When I look back on this event, I feel like I didn’t get why my mom told me. I thought that she had just told me so that I would get money and candy. Now I realize that she told me so that I could have more knowledge. I am very grateful that she shared that knowledge with me. I love my mom for a lot of reasons, and her telling me about the tooth fairy is one of them.
Every day when someone asks me a question, I try to share a bit of knowledge with them. What will you do?

Working Hard Leads to Good Things
By Kelli Fogt
12/19/10
I believe that if you work hard you can do or be anything.
It was that time again, the beginning of softball season. This was the first time I had to tryout instead of being placed on a team like the past years. I didn’t know what to expect or what to think so I just did what everyone else was doing. Then it hit me, this day would determine what team I was going to be on for the rest of the season. So I did the only thing I could think of, I did my best, which I’ve been doing my whole life so it wasn’t hard. I worked really hard the past year, that my best ended up being better than most the other girls. That year I made the A team. I was the only 3rd grader on that team, the rest were in 5th grade.
What I know now is that if you have determination you can do things that you never thought you could do. I am proud of myself for sticking with it and working hard. When I first got to tryouts I was nervous. Then I remembered how hard I worked. When I first found I was on the A team, I was glad I worked so hard. At first I thought it was for nothing but now I realize it made a huge difference and put me on top.
I use this lesson every time I am faced with any challenge. As a person it has made me more independent and mentally strong. I have always loved softball and known I was good at it, but having the challenge of playing with older girls, has made me a lot better. Sometimes when I am faced with challenges I often choose the hard way out because I know it will help me grow as a person. I never thought I would be playing with older girls, but I have learned a lot of life lessons from my experiences with these girls.
When I look back on this event, I think about how it has changed the way I think going into challenges. I am an independent person but everyone faces challenges where they need help. Sometimes I think I can do things by myself, but really need help and support like my dad gave me throughout that season and the next 2 seasons after that when I was on that team. As an athlete and student I have become better and more independent. Looking back on this event reminds me that I worked hard and had a good experience.
Everyone faces challenges at one point or another, but you have to have determination and preserver through that challenge to have a great experience and grow into a great person.

Being Fair Can Change You
I believe that life is not always fair, there will be days in your life were you will find that out.
It all started when we were driving to the mall. I am younger than my sister so my sister gets to do everything. It bugs me. My sister and her friend were just getting out of the car when I said, “mom can I go too?” She just said “your too young stay in the car!” All I said was “but mom I really want to go!” Then she got mad. “Lifes not always fair you just have to deal with it!”
The lesson I learned that day was very powerful. The lesson was that lifes not always fair u just have to deal with it when someone says no to you when u wanted to do something. I was sad and mad at that moment about what my mom said to me.
I would use this lesson to treat people a good lesson. I will always tell people lifes not always fair as I grow up. It has made me a stronger person. Everyone is going to come along with this problem that lifes not always fair. I just hope people will be a stronger person like I was.
When I look back I have changed. I never ask my mom to go somewhere if I know she is going to say no. I just have to get over it. I also do care about what happen but at the same time I dont because I always go to the mall now since I am older so I don’t care as much. Even though I don’t really care I can still use this lesson in the future.
Having this lesson change me a lot I hope it will change you!

Don't Break the Ice
.
As Till and I ran into the woods, ready for fun, I wanted to go back, but I didn’t. I wanted to go back because someone always got hurt when we went into the woods. Once someone fell in the river, and once someone fell in a rock hole, and once someone fell on a sharp tree branch.
I ran with Till through the woods in hopes of finding anything interesting like a rock or a stick. We started up the slippery trail to the frozen waterfall. The water was wet and frosty under the ice.
We looked at the waterfall. It was so cool! There was ice over the water but it was still running underneath the waterfall. We got up on the ice and I started stomping. Then my leg went through. I almost fell off the waterfall! Till fell through too. Then we got out of the ice.
We tumbled back to his house as fast as we could. We were so wet and cold! We got back to his house and had some nice hot chocolate. We had a fun but dangerous day.

The Big Bang
The Big Bang
My friends and I went to the woods behind the school. We just wanted to see what was down there. We found a firecracker. My friend brought a lighter. We tried to light it. We got in trouble.
I have learned not to light off fire crackers at school because it is bad. I think I did it because I am impulsive and dumb. I am sorry. I have learned my lesson.
I have used this misfortune to make me the person I am. I may be bad at times, but I am mostly honest.
When I look back on this event I know I have learned to not just run free and do whatever I want. I think about stuff before I do it. That has helped me be a better person.
I think this is a good lesson to be learned. You should put it into effect in your life.

Always Tell The Truth
Always Tell The Truth
By: Kristin Hunke
I will never forget the last time I had to make a challenging decision. One that I will never forget, but these are the times when we learn from our mistakes, times we knew we should have done the right thing but we didn’t.
This all started when one day my friend and I were playing with glass marbles in my room. Next thing I knew there was a big red spot on my bedroom carpet. One of the marbles broke and cut my leg. We had no idea what to do. So we thought and thought and finally came up with an idea. We decided to try to clean it up with a rag and some soap. The only problem was that we used a red rag. Not such a smart idea at all! It made the red spot even darker and bigger. At that point we had no idea what we should do.
I still hadn’t told her and it was time for volley ball practice. I kept deciding if I should tell her or not. I finally decided I would tell her after volley ball practice.
We were done with volley ball now and waiting for my mom to pick me up. I saw her car. I was really scared because I didn’t know if she saw the red spot yet. As I jumped in the car I could tell she was curious about something. She immediately asked “what is that red spot on your carpet?” I took a deep breath and responded with “I cut my leg and got blood all over my carpet.” She looked at me but she didn’t look mad. Was she not mad at me? I wondered. After and long paused she said “I’m not mad at you but be sure to tell me the moment it happens next time so we can deal with it right away.”
The rest of that night we spent trying to clean it up but I have learned a BIG lesson! This has changed me as a person. When something like this happens I now know I need to do the right thing which isn’t lying or procrastinating its telling the truth right away. This event is one that I look back on when I need advice. I learned even though telling the truth might be hard we need to do it.
Now when I look back on this day I think of how silly I was for doing what I did. I know I should have told the truth but I didn’t. Now that I’ve learned my lesson I won’t let anything like this happen again.
I hope you have all learned this valuable lesson. It will get you further in life by just telling the truth.

Believing
I believe that you should stick to what you believe, no matter what others think. If you really believe in something you won’t change your thoughts.
Once my dad tested my belief in the Steelers. We were watching the Steelers play. They were loosing. Then my dad broke the silence saying, “I don’t like the Steelers anymore. In fact, I like the Detroit Lions.” The thought of traitor shot through my head. I thought in my head, should I follow my dad? I started to think of all my Steelers stuff, all that gone to waste? Finally I said “I’m still a Steelers fan.” My dad, with his surprised-struck face, gave up and started to cheer for the Steelers. I felt satisfied. That day I showed my belief in the Steelers was Unbreakable.
What I realize now is that I did not only surprise my dad, but I broke away from following him. When the first thought of traitor set in I thought it was there to stay. But then I started to fall for the test. When dad gave up so quickly, I was surprised. He usually makes sure I don’t want to change my mind, and he tries to persuade me to his side. When I think about it, I shouldn’t have been satisfied, it was just a test. My dad was not surprised as much as he was happy that I was thinking my own thoughts.
I have used the lesson today to help me be a more independent person. I can use this lesson when I’m alone to have my own ideas for anything. If there is a situation where I have to lead, I can make good decisions without help. Even if it is just a football game in my backyard, or as big as getting out of a burning house. This also makes me a better student so I can work alone, or with a group. It still surprises me that this small incident can still help me now!
When I look back at this event, I feel good and feel the same. I feel good because it was the time I broke away and thought my own thoughts. I feel the same knowing it was just a test. I learned this was an important time in my life. Even though it was small, it still guides me while I make decisions. This incident reminded me to try to think my own thoughts all the time I can.
You may THINK you believe in something, but think deeper. If there is a possibility that it can change, you don’t believe.

Ride Like the Wind
I got out of the car and scurried up to the High school. After I walked in I saw a cafeteria, an atrium, and some posters. I went into a hall way which leads into a chorus room. As I walked in I became so nervous! I thought that I was going to mess up the concert. The room had a four step riser, an On Broadway sign, a piano, and some technology stuff. The fifth graders got in there row and started warming up their voices.
When the group was on stage the song came on. “Ride like the wi-------------------------nd” I started toward the microphone. “It was pouring rain when he left Saint Joe” I sang as a solo.
After I was done singing I headed back to my spot people around me said “good job.” The fifth graders sang three more songs then it was time to leave the stage and find are parents in the cafeteria. I found my family they said “great job.” My family and I left to go to Zazup so we can eat. I thought that solo was so much fun.

Stay Green
I believe that people should stop hurting the environment; if we stop we will become green.
Poaching is one thing I hate. When I saw a picture of millions of sharks’ dead, because of us, I felt sick in the stomach. Poaching means humans killing animals. For example: a person kills a tiger for some accessories and mats. The main animals that we kill are pig, duck, cows, chicken, and turkey. The average of people killing animals is about fifty percent. And the percent of animals still out there is about fifty percent. If we stop killing animals, there will be more and more of them to grow and renew.
I also don’t like air pollution (It is when we release something into the air like gases). Scientists predict that in twenty years there won’t be any air, that humans and other organisms can breathe. Today would be the beginning; New York would be half way, and in China would be at the end. Also if we keep polluting the air, we’ll be dead before you know it. If I were you stop polluting the air so we can breathe!
Stop putting that in the drain or the toilet if I were you or something bad will happen. That is called water pollution. Scientists predict in ten years we won’t be able to drink any water. We need water to live; if we keep polluting you will be dead next year. If you want this to happen, bad choice.
Habitat destruction is destroying animal’s homes or the human population is getting to big. The more the human population grows, the less land and more buildings are going to get built. Scientists predict that in thirty nine years the human population will be too big. That means organisms habitat will be destroyed. Why oh why should this happen.
How you become green is depending on your life.

Do You Have Wisdom?
I believe that you should always be careful of your judgment or else…
Finally I could remember the familiar face; the one that was mean to me in 1st grade. Now I did not want to be one of her friends at all. For this reason in 1st grade I still thought she was still mean and didn’t change at all. It turned out I was wrong. The girl had changed a lot over the years. I felt so guilty like a defendant in court going to prison for 10 years. And then I realized I should use my judgment more carefully.
What I found out is a lesson I could use for the rest of my life. That day I also learned that I should never judge someone of what I knew from such a long time because they can always change. Therefore I didn’t feel happy at all that day but I did learn an important lesson I could always use.
I have used this lesson to help myself to become more aware of what I think right away. As my life goes on and I use this lesson, I also try not to forget how important it is. Additionally it made me be more careful of what I see and think about it. In other words I do not only use this lesson in school, I will also need to use it everywhere I go no matter if I see something that is new or old.
As I place myself in this situation every time I remember it, I feel so miserable like it was the day it actually happened. After the “flashback” I always have I feel really awful of what I had done. However, on the other hand I was glad I didn’t tell anyone or else they will underestimate me and that will lead me to another difficult problem. Also I was satisfied that the girl who changed did not know at all of what I thought about her before. Eventually I figured out there is always a time in each day of your life when you have done a mistake but still learned a lot from it. That day, at that time was the mistake and the lesson all tied together.
To wrap this all up, I hope you use your wisdom to make careful and safe decisions.

Have You Ever Felt Invincible?
Have You Ever Felt Invincible?
I believe if you try hard enough that everyone and everything can make you feel invincible.
The first time I ever felt invincible was when I hit my very first outfielder. I was waiting for us to go in the outfield when I hear my name being called. I was talking when I looked up and my coach Bill was calling my name. He had a helmet in one hand and my bat in the other.
My big sister patted me on the back and told me “Your Up.”
I stepped up to the plate. I hit my bat on the ground 3 times. (Witch is one of my lucky numbers) and get into batting position. My coach looked at me and gave me a thumbs-up. I smiled. My hands were sweating and shaking. I knew in myself I wasn’t a good hitter but this was my chance to prove I know what I’m doing and I am more then just a good second baser. So there I was at the plate ready to try my hardest. The ball came at me. I froze… my heart was pounding and when I thought it was time I swung. OH NO!!!! I opened my eyes. Oh my gosh I had done it!!!! When I opened my eyes the ball was soaring through the air. So there I went. I took off running. I MADE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE THIRD BASE!!! When I got there coach Bill was waiting. A giant smile on his face. He gave me a compliment. I thanked him then watched who was up to bat. Yes! Elizabeth was up to bat. She was an AMAZING hitter and I was sure to be at home plate after she hit. Lizzy hit and I made it home. I got so many “Good Jobs” and “Wows you did greats” I was really proud of myself. That is what happened when I felt invincible for the first time.
Now I realize that if you really try hard enough you never know what you will find.
This experience has made me believe in myself not only as a person but as a good team player. I learned that if you try you can exceed. Truth Is if a person puts their mind to it they wont know how it turned out. They can only hope it turned out the way they wanted it to. When I hit my very first outfielder I knew I had improved that day. It made it all the more better that my team believed in me. I knew deep down I had it in me I just needed to find it. I felt joy hitting that ball and knew I could do it for all the other times it was me up to bat.
I have used this lesson to make me who I am today. If I ever get stuck and think I cant do it I think of that moment and take a deep breath and then I smile to make it a clean slate and normally I get through it. But sometimes like I needed some support from my team I need a little support from the adult that is around me. It made me appreciate having such a good team that they could keep such a little detail kept in one of my little files to save. There is always a door open if you try hard enough to walk through it. It surprises me how such little things in life could change your life forever.
When I look back at this event it makes me think about how no matter what you do there is always an opportunity that is waiting for you to walk right into it. There is a time in your life where it is okay to just let loose and give it a little less effort. But there is also a time when it isn’t okay and you need to give it your hardest effort that you have in you. As a student and a team player- I need to know that there are times when it is and isn’t okay to give up and just ignore what you need done. I also need to understand that people do things for a reason weather is it getting you to be able to hit a ball. Or getting you to be able to dance a recital all by yourself without freezing with stage fright. These are things we need to understand.
Everyday you have a chance to make someone’s day better. Who’s day can you fix or what can you do to yours?
Digging a Little Deeper
I believe that even if you are ill, frustrated, or feel like nothing is going your way your family should always have your back.
The exact number was 16. 16 days of school I had missed because I was sick with a terrible case…pneumonia. (I was in the 2nd grade) I was so sick my mom had to wait on my hands and feet while my dad was at work. I remember getting frustrated when she made me the wrong kind of soup, brought me a warm towel that wasn’t warm enough, and way more. She never said one word about until after I was sick. After I was sick she told me about all the things I did… I was surprised.
Looking back on those days I realized I learned a more powerful lesson that day than just wear a coat outside so you don’t get sick.(but I know that is an important one…well to me)Whenever I get mad at my mom I just think about all those 16 days when I saw love and compassion. I now show love and compassion with others too. I know I could have gotten in so much trouble when I got sassy with my mom. But she understood what I was going through and knew how sick I was. I was relieved I didn’t have to face my mom when she was mad knowing I had been a brat.
I have used this lesson since to make me who I am today. I know if I show love and compassion I’ll get it right back. It made me appreciate my mom always being there for me. There is love and compassion in everyone but sometimes you have to dig a little deeper. It makes me wonder what other challenges there are in life to come.
When I look back on those 16 days all I can do is smile because I know they changed my life forever. There is a certain time for kids to have consequences, but there is also a certain time to just be guided through it. This situation makes me realize that there is more to life then just living.
You can find love and compassion in everyone, but sometimes you just might have to dig a little deeper to find it.

The Horror Of Treats
The Horror of treats
The warm fuzzy feeling of having a new puppy is something you cant explain.
But when you bring out the treats the horror comes out with them.
“We need a new puppy” mom says with a giant smirk on her face. “No we do not” dad says suspiciously. “Guys go clean your rooms” “mine” Ireland starts. “The way I want it” mom says with a despiteful look. “Ughh” she complains. “Okay.” We hear faint mumbling. Mom looked at me.” I know I know” I walked away slowly. That night, mom and dad were in their room on the phone with someone. They were murmuring amongst themselves. Curious, I walked into their room. Dad gave me a cruel look. He kept talking. I left quietly. I picture this little black and white puppy sitting by my couch…. “HOW CUTE!!!!” I though… dad said we weren’t getting a puppy…PSHH YEA RIGHT!
Dad walked out of his room. We were sitting on the floor watching TV. “Okay, you guys are going to grandmas for new years.” He says. “WHY?!?!” Ireland mopes. “Because she wants to see you?” he says with a puzzled look. “MANNNN” she moans. “Are we getting a puppy?” I asked. “No” dad says not bringing his eyes to meet mine.
“LIAR” I thought. A week later dad came and got us. My heart was pounding way more then normal when we were driving home. I couldn’t stop replaying the picture in my mind. When we were almost home dad says “no more tug-of-war with Titan.” My thoughts shattered and my heart sank. Tug-of-war was Titan and my favorite game. “Why not!” I said in a melancholy voice. “He is getting way to aggressive.” We got home and dad said “don’t go in the kitchen” knowing we will. “MOM MOM WHERE ARE YOU!?!?” A high pitched voice says “in here!” smile that was all I could do. He was soooo adorable. After a while mom asks “ who wants a treat?!?” Titan right on dad’s heels walks in the room. I guess both boys do. Hahaha! But when mom pulls out the treats the horror comes out with them.
Like a bolt of black blur, our thoughts were shattered by a shrill of pain coming from a little voice. The noise rang over and over in my head. Titan had bit a hole in the little guys face!
“OH MY GOSH!” My mom screams. He was laying on the floor yelping. Blood everywhere! Titan’s ears go back like a bullet. He runs to his kennel. “TITAN!” dad yells his face red with fury. Dad darts after him. Mom grabs the puppy. “ Aww you poor thing!” she whines. “Get a towel fast!” my heart pounds as I run down the hall to the closet. He was bleeding everywhere. All of a sudden we hear a yelp. But it wasn’t from the puppy it was from Titan, whoa. We got him cleaned up and took him to Broderick’s Animal Clinic. The vet said that Titan had punctured Apollo’s nasal Canella. Her face looked sorrowful. Impulsively I kissed Apollo’s wound. He licked my face. I felt my heart getting all warm and fuzzy inside. “I LOVE YOU APOLLO” I whispered.
Titan hasn’t touched Apollo like that since. But now when Apollo breathes he cant breathe very well out of his nose. So it makes a really funny clacking noise. J but we love Apollo just the way he is. (and everything about him) J <3

Being Free
Being Free by: Brillian Q.
I believe that you can be different and won't have to care what people think.
During 5th grade, I moved to a new city and made some pretty...odd friends, but what i didn't know is those friends would teach me a very important lesson. I was average but also quiet on the other hand my friends were odd AND crazy!!! They tried to get me to be like them. As a result I hated every minute.People kept staring at me when i hung out with my friends. Of course i had a crazy side everyone does but I wasn't about to use it. Finally I gave up though. I did what I liked. Whenever I liked. From there on forward I was free.I chose CRAZY. I felt wonderful. No matter what people think be who you are.
Now, I realize back before i met my friends I just wanted to be normal, but that wasn't me. I wasn't free to chose what I was like. My personality was I could be crazy and shy at the same time.other people may laugh but it's better to be me. I'd rather be the sugary ceral than bland[yuck]. It's fun to be who I am that's what my friends tought me, of course there still a little upset I'm not exactly like them because then I'd still be bland.
I haved used this lesson to be independent. So when someone does something i don't like don't expect me to do it[ even if it's popular]. Now I can do what I want. Why should I be embarrasded if I shout "MACORONI" at the top of my lungs? I love being different.
I should've learned this lesson earlier. Now i've wasted my time being the same. Back then I could've much more things if I didn't worry aboutbeing "popular". When I was little, if i wouldve wore rainbow polka-dot then plaid i would've been completly embarrassed. I would've been better on in life if I would've been me.
I believe be who YOU are no one else.

The Scorpion
I closed my eyes and I took a deep breathe. I clenched my hands and next thing I knew I was one step closer to the ride. My heart beat out of my chest, my conscience saying no don’t do it, get out of line. My feet keep dragging me closer and closer to the death trap. I couldn’t do it, I have to do it, I didn’t know what to do. I was terrified watching person after person getting on the ride closer and closer feeling like I was going to die it was a disaster.
My mom looks over at me and asks “Are you sure you want to do this?” NO I thought I tried to say it but I couldn’t then I heard myself say yes. No I wanted to scream but it just wouldn’t come out. I wanted to go back I wanted to scream and runaway but my feet were like glued to the floor. I was so scared the ride was called the SCORPION and I know nothing good comes from SCORPIONS. My feet wouldn’t stop moving they kept going.
Eventually I was next in line when it was my turn to get on the ride was then that my feet wouldn’t go. My mom pushed me other ride we sat in the third row, well there were only three rows. When we sat down I thought I was going to lose my lunch. My stomach was turning. I watched as the ride in front of us started moving, everybody screaming at the top of there lungs. While I was watching the other group someone must have strapped me in, because when I wanted to get up and run my bottom was glued to the seat. I wished I could just face my fear. I clenched my moms hand I felt better that she was there, but then my heart sank when we started moving.
We started moving I almost puked, I felt sick we started slowly moving uphill. I got scared not for going uphill but for going downhill. Because I know what ever goes up must come down. Chhh chhhhh chhhh went the tracks slowly screeching up. We slowly made it to the top we turned around the corner. The sun was in my face, I look down what looked like 1 million feet we slowly creep around the edge, than we got hung over the top. I felt like I could touch the sky. Then we fell like 1 billion miles per hour. When we hit the bottom I started to laugh so hard my mom thought I was crying. She ran over and asked what’s wrong. I started giggling and said
“can we do it again?”
“yes we can.”
I was so proud of myself for concurring my fear. I wanted to do it over and over again. I did it six times, and I loved it each and every time. Im glad that I did it. I will always remember that day weather im doing something I have never done before, or im just nervous. I will look at that day and say I can do anything. I want to always remember that day.

Always Follow Your Heart
Always Follow Your Heart
By Shawana S. 12/20/10
When was the last time you lied? How did you feel about it? I believe honesty is the one thing that’ll reach you to success and keep you on a higher level of life.
I was glued to my seat, trying to figure out what to do. While my friend Megan was being yelled at, I was trying to find the answer to my question. Should I tell the truth? It happened this morning of 2nd grade when I was 7, Megan and I went over to the teacher’s desk to check out her picture frames. The teacher wasn’t in the room. Reaching over to grab one of the frames, I spilled something. There was coffee located next to the teacher’s important documents. Obviously, the coffee chose to fall on the IMPORTANT thing. Too scared and afraid of getting in trouble, I sneaked to my seat and sat there like an angel who hadn’t done anything, but was I an angel? Megan was still standing by the desk and didn’t notice my actions in fact, no one did. The teacher stepped in and froze. Megan noticed what happened and she knew she was going to be framed. Back to the angel question, the answer is no. Even though it was me, I couldn’t spill the cat out of my bag. My lips were sealed shut. To conclude, that day I figured you should always be truthful or the dishonest event keeps attacking you back.
Now, I realize I learned an extraordinary lesson about following what your heart thinks is right not what your brain thinks. You can’t change things from the way they are. I felt crazy and dumb about having Megan take the load and suffer. I didn’t tell anyone that I did it because I was too scared. I felt really guilty. When the incident happened, I was frozen at the moment. Frozen, my brain was not working. Furthermore, I couldn’t be called honest, trustworthy or caring. Megan would hang out with me, not knowing that I did everything. For the most part, she was over the whole scene. She didn’t care about what happened. Did I mention she was easy-going? The teacher didn’t ask anyone furthermore than Megan about the coffee spilling. In a way I was happy, but still had a guilty feeling. Knowing that I wasn’t satisfied with what I had done, I didn’t want to let anyone down especially Megan. I didn’t want to tell anyone.
I have used this lesson to help me realize what happens when you don’t listen to your heart and spill out what’s right. I think twice before what I say. This gave me a habit of being careful for what I do and don’t. It also made me realize how friends can be. They’ll always be there when you need them! This made me see the real side of Megan and the teacher. I have used this lesson to help me decide the right thing to say before I do anything. I remind myself about this event anytime I try to lie and of course I tell the truth! It amazes me that after this incident, how I have a totally different picture of myself! I feel real guilty about the whole thing.
When I look back at this event, I think about how my personality and thinking of myself has changed. As a person, you can never be perfect no matter how well you think you do in things. Never think you’re awesome! There is always a time and place you make a mistake and can’t take it back. You feel overwhelmed and surprised about what you’ve done. Sometimes, you learn from your own experiences. You learn it the hard way. You can’t change the way life is, no matter how perfect or mixed up things are!
Each day you have a chance to see the real you. When is yours? Don’t ever think you’re perfect!

Honesty is Love
Honesty is love
When was the last time you have told the truth? I believe honesty is the best trait a person can have.
Everyday my brother gets mad at me for some anonymous reason. So, every day I take one small toy of his for payback. Once I get home from school I take it, but I’m always scared he will find out what I have been doing. Consequently, I realized one day that I had ransacked his room, just to find that one thing, so I cleaned my mess up. That day just happened to be New Years, which is when I give back all I have taken and tell the truth that I have been taking his things. Once he came home, I gave back all the things I took and told the truth.
What I realize now is that honesty helps you get through situations. Also, whatever time you think is best to tell the truth you can. When I realized I ransacked his room, I panicked thinking he would find out. As a result, I cleaned up my mess which made me pleased. Well, I didn’t EXACTLY feel pleased when I cleaned up my mess; just relived he wouldn’t have to find out that way.
I have used this lesson to show what kind of person I am today. As a student and daughter it made me more responsible to make sure my things are organized. I never forgot about everything I had done. It made me feels happy that I have a brother to fight and love with. Everyone has feelings inside, you just have to find them and let them out. Amazing as it is, one thing can change how people see you; good and bad.
When I look back, I think about how it has changed the way I think about siblings. There is a time when siblings need to fight out their love. Also, there is a time and place to tell the truth. It is when and where you feel comfortable. As a sister, I need to make sure my brother is organized so he can find things.
Today, this happening reminded me that it is good to have someone there to help you through life. What will you do for your siblings? How will YOU help them?

Imagination
Once I was outside in the snow and I was really bored so I imagined that I was a pro snow boarder. So I made a track and it had a jump on it so you can imagine doing big tricks off it. So that’s when I made my snowboard track.
The next day I asked if I could have a friend come over and play outside in the snow. So when he got here we added onto the track so it was even longer and better than before. But when we were done adding onto it we noticed that there was a tree at the end of the track. So we imagined that there was a brick wall at the bottom of it so if we got near the tree we would fall off.
The next day I had my friend come over again but this time he brought his really BIG sled. It was so big it could hold about 4 people. That’s a lot of people for a sled. So we went down the track in the sled but we forgot we couldn’t steer and the tree was at the end. So we went down and hit the tree, it hurt really badly.
When we were done sledding and snow boarding we went inside and we made ourselves some hot chocolate. It was really good. And we also put our snow stuff in the dryer so we could go back outside. So when our snow stuff was done drying we went back outside to the track that we made. But this time we made sure we didn’t hurt ourselves. That’s a time when I imagined something. It doesn’t matter how old you are you can still use your imagination any time you want.

To say you believe in something you don’t know is real is hard.
Everyday everyone does their normal routine. Not wanting to go to school or too tired. In other words you sometimes are in a rush and don’t even notice the little things that make our world beautiful. But in the end you don’t want to go to bed. But some people don’t do that, they take a deep breath, look around, and know God is with them.
I am for one of those people in the middle. I think about God but not always sure he is real. I talked to my parents about it and they said he was real so I did too. Then I noticed it was my choice. Now I realize I learned a valuable lesson that night, to have faith in what you believe, and from that day on I feel more powerful over my decision.
I have used this lesson to help me make my decisions in life. Just to know you have a god is so powerful. It helps me take the right path in life too. Being able to pray and talk to him is amazing. I don’t think I will ever forget the time I truly believed in him.
When I look back I remember how I felt but know I feel stronger as a person. To believe in something makes you feel special as a person. It makes you think more about the world and you have a lot more questions but you just don’t know the answer. When I am older I want to work at the church so I can grow as a believer. From going through this experience I have grown into a stronger person.
To say you believe in something you don’t know is real is hard. It’s also hard if people around you don’t believe. Take a look back. Have you ever stopped believing in something because someone has told you otherwise? Then put what they say behind, take a step forward and pray. I believe in what I think is real and you should too.

Hope is How you Get Through Life
I believe that hope takes a big part in your life.
When I was 11, Derek died, it was like the earth stopped moving. On August 2nd, I got the news that Derek was in the hospital. He had a tear in his aorta(a chamber in your heart) and none of the doctors knew how he got it. We all thought he was going to be fine. However, he started slowly dying, taking a week to die, when he was only 42 years old. It was the worst and most shocking thing that ever happend to me.
I learned through this hard time that life isn't always fair. I was very heartbroken about this, for example when we went through the lines to say our condolences, I was fine until I got to Gwen, his wife, to hug her I started really crying. Also, I still did not know why it had to happen to Derek. I felt dull that day and couldn't believe it happend!
Through this time, I have learned a great lesson about life and the road it takes us down. This incident has made me feel proud and fortunate of having a dad. So now I realize that hope plays a big part in our lives. Now, I always try to have hope in all the bad things that happen in life and the world. For example, when the earthquake in Haiti occurred, we had to have hope that some people and animals were going to survive through that sorrow and grief-stricken time. Even though this was a hard experience, I found some good out of it.
When I think about this time now, I think of great love and hope. Now, I think there is a reason and a purpose for why Derek died. There were a lot of people that came to church to celebrate his life that may not have been to church for a while and to show his wife love and to give her hope. It reminded me to show love to people in your life because you don't know what tomorrow might bring.
In conclusion, I learned threw a horrifying and heartbroken time that life isn't always fair, and you have to have hope to trudge through it.

Love is on your side
I believe it your injured or hurt a love one will always be there with you.
My stomach was rumbling, it was 5:00 in the morning and it was my surgery day. I’ve forgot that I couldn’t eat anything that day or the day before, and again I heard a loud rumble. I was thinking if something could go wrong. Like what if the doctor cut off my whole foot or all my toes, my belly rumbled louder than ever. I was going to faint we where already at the clinic, I took two very deep breaths and went inside. The nurse asked my a bunch of questions but I barley heard any of it with my heart pounding. I was in the surgery room they told me to count to 10, 1 2 3 4 5 6 and before I counted further I silently breathed “I hope this goes good” and then I blanked out and fell asleep. I couldn’t count the rest of the numbers 7 8 9 and last of all 10.
I was trying to remember what day it was an where I was. My mom told me it was November first and that we where at home. My mom helped me with everything getting down stairs and up. When my mom was at work my dad did all the things she did. What I realized that week was that I will always have a love one by my side no matter what. Even my brother was nice and kind he was always there for me after school. It was one of the first time I realized that my family loves me for ever and always every seconded of the day.
I used this lesson to change who I am today
Whenever I fight or get mad at my parents I use it. I know that my family loves me and they care about me so why do I fight with them. I take a look at myself and say I would have never been who I am today with out my family. Even though we fight I will always love them and they will always love me. Every day, every night, every seconded.
When I look back at this moment, I see how much I changed from back then to now.
When I fight with family, friends or people who im close with. I say why am I fighting with them. Why is the only word going threw my mind in that time. I stop to think what I did or they did wrong I clear my head and say friends and family are the closest thing to a person. You cant ask for anything more than family and friends, nothing can replace them. Even though there’s tough times and easy times there will always be times you’ll never forget this conflict has taught me that family will always love you no matter what. Picture your self with no family or friends. Where would you be in life, could you live or survive that?

The Importance of Hope
I believe you can do anything. I learned this from a story I saw on TV about a 1 legged man who wanted to play football.
A one legged man wanted more than anything to play football. For months he sat down and just thought and thought of a way to play football. He never thought of a way, but he didn't need to because one day the coach at the University of Atlanta, Georgia called him. The coach heard the story and invited the man to play. So for 1 play in a practice the man took a handoff, ran past the defense, and scored! ( The team let him score) He had inspired many people to have hope in anything, including me.
I learned that anything and everything is possible. I also learned, no matter what happens to you, you can do it. When I saw the man, I thought how unlucky he is to have only one leg. He could do almost nothing someone with 2 legs could do. But when the coach called to invite him to practice, I thought that the coach was the nicest coach in the league! At the time, the story didn't mean much to me, but I now know how important that story is to me.
I used this to help mold the person I am today. Like when I was 10, I went to Sports Plex. They have a huge, 30ft, climbing wall. I thought it would be impossible, but then I remembered the story and I did it! It also made me more outgoing as a person. Like in Speech and Drama, we do these acting games, and when it's my turn I do anything because even if doesn't go as planned, I had hope I could do it. Remember, your capable of anything, just try. This one story has changed my life.
When I think of the event now, I realize how much it's changed me. Everybody needs to feel hope. Having hope is an important trait to know for anyone. And I now know, when people look depressed or mad, they probably don't have hope. This story has helped me understand how important it is to have hope.
Hope is more than dreaming it, hope, is fulfilling it.

The Lesson I Learned
This I Believe
I was only eight and I understood what happens when someone dies. That was the day my grandpa died. My grandpa cared about everyone even if he saw them on the street. Just seeing my grandma cry was just too hard for me to stand. I didn’t really get what was going on but seeing my grandma cry when she was on the phone. I knew something was up!
When someone dies it can bring out the good in people. When my grandma tolled me my grandpa died it was hard he was there for me whenever I needed him I just lost the most important person in my life. But I knew there was a point in life when you die. When I figured out there was a terrible feeling inside. When we were on are way to the funereal I felt like showing my family to be strong. At the funeral there were a lot of tears but we knew he was in a better place.
I’ve used this lesson to know things happen for a reason. My grandma wanted to know if I was fine, I said I was even though I new I wasn’t. After that day it made me realize how important family is. In this point of my life I knew that you have to die at one point. It’s so amazing how a family gets closer when someone passing away.
When I look back I realize he is always watching. And that I will love him forever even if he isn’t standing next to me. I learned that there is a time in life to show compassion. I know I this situation makes me understand how important showing compassion is. My grandma needed it that day.
The next week was emotional but I got through it. I have some good memories when I think about him. I think of those memories. I will love him forever even if he isn’t standing right next to me. This I believe.

I believe that parents have a reason for everything.
Everyone lies, even your parents. It’s okay, please don’t hate them. It’s for the good. My parents lied to me about Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and the Easter Bunny, until I was about eight. I believed in Santa Claus, however my brother was at that age where he doubted that Santa was real. As a result he made me wonder if my parents were Santa Claus We begged and begged, and finally she admitted it. Ironically my parents didn’t need to tell me because my friends couldn’t keep a secret.
I learned that parents will do anything for their kids. They love you so much that they would lie for you. Before my mom told me I knew something was up. I was curious. Afterwards I was shocked to know he wasn’t real. I was also shocked my parents had lied to me. I felt loved because my parents respected me. My parents loved me and showed they trust in me by sharing a secret.
This lesson taught me parental love. It makes me think twice about getting mad at them. It makes me appreciate my life because they love me. Even if your parents won’t let you get a puppy, they love you. It amazes me that my parents would do anything for me.
When I look back on this now, I realize parenting will be a challenge. Our kids need to believe in stuff that they don’t see. This has inspired me to teach my kids about Santa when I grow up. It’s for a good cause. I love my parents and I hope my children will love me.
Each and every day my parents love me, and I hope I always remember that!

My Angel
My heart stopped, and my brain raced with questions as my dad told me the terrible news, my grandfather had just lost his battle to lung cancer. I could not believe it; he was almost perfect the previous night when we saw him. I just could not wrap my brain around the idea that he was truly gone.
A few days later, we drove up to go to his visitation. I saw a lot of friends and family that came to share our grief. Grandpa had on a beautiful suit. My dad went over and put an Iowa pin onto his lapel, to symbolize an Iowan. Grandpa also had a little smile on his face, as if he was trying to tell me every thing was going to be okay.
The next day we headed to the Alden Cemetery to go and burry him. I stood under the family tent right next to my dad. I saw his beautiful casket glistening in the sun. My grandfather also served in the war so, of course, he was honored with a 21 gun salute. When they finished shooting the bullets, they gave the shells to grandma. She then handed one shell to each of us. I saw grandpa go down into the grave. Everyone had tears in their eyes.
For those few days I really tested my faith, especially when I saw him go. I will never forget my Grandpa, Lorenz Dale Hansen.
When he died I realized how much I really cared about him. I know now that I wasn’t the only one who was having grief about the loss. My family and My grandpa’s friends and even my friends had grief for us. When he died though, I thought it was the end of the world because I thought he would never die. When I think about that, I become very sad because I was very close to him, but I also knew that I will see him again one day. Even though he is gone I am very glad because he is not suffering anymore.
I have used this lesson to love everyone that I am close to now before they are gone. I have also learned not to hold grudges because it is very tragic to see families not talk to one another until they can’t anymore. It has also helped me to understand that everyone has to go sometime, so you need to let go when it is time. It really amazes me how people really don’t appreciate the people until it is too late.
When I look back at this event I feel very sad, but at the same time filled with hope. Ever since he died I have always thought of him as my guardian angel watching over me and protecting me from life’s challenges. I really can’t wait to see him again, I can’t wait to hug him and feel close to him again.
My Grandpa was a very unforgettable man for so many reasons. He was a loving and caring grandpa, just everything about him was unforgettable. I loved him very much, even though I was sad to see him go, but everyone is sad to see loved ones go, just like I was.
Even though I miss him deeply, I believe that he is happier in heaven with no more pain or suffering, This I believe.

Christmas
Christmas
By: Marilyn Y.
I think my grandma makes the best cookies in the world. She was making cookies and it smelled delicious, no joke. Every time it was time for Christmas, I couldn’t wait for my grandma’s cookies. While my mouth was watering, I decided to chew some minty gum. My cousin was there and he is about 4 now. I was holding his hand because he wanted to go play in the snow without his snow gear. Then I looked back because I heard my cousin saying, “guess what?”, also his face had an “oh no” look on it. Just then I started to think about what was going on but then my cousins, my grandparents, and I found out that he was just joking around. Afterwards I started to think on “What am I going to get for my presents?”. I got to thinking about that question for a long time until, I finally got tired of my gum and spit it out. I was really hungry and the smell of my grandma’s cookies made it even worse. I got tired of waiting and to distract myself, I thought of a game. We play tag or hide and go seek. We played for a while when more cars started to pile in the icy driveway. But that wasn’t the end of our games, we had to play another game because they hadn’t finished wrapping. I asked “ What’s the point in wrapping, when we were just going to tear the paper apart. As always they replied “ It’s going to be a surprise”. Well we listened to our parents and played “ heads up, seven up” but in our case it was “ heads up, five up”. Finally they had finished and we got out our wish lists and showed them, guessing what we got and what we didn’t. We did that to wait for the rest of the food to be ready. We compared our wish lists and we had most to a few things in common. I started feeling like this day, I would never forget. Then my grandma called us to eat. I couldn’t wait to eat my aunts pie. When I was done eating I got ready for some cookies but I had to wait . Finally it was time for eating the cookies. I could taste the good chocolate “mmmm” I said. I love my cookies. My family and I opened presents then I noticed that day had gone so fast by. I didn’t want to wake up and know that day was over.

Down it Goes
We were staying at Tan-Tar-a Resort when the incident happened.
It was June 2007, when we were on a speedboat. It was a nice warm sunny day, where the sun was shining down on us while we where in our swimsuits. When all the sudden the sky turned gray and it became breezy. Then we noticed a mysterious dock building boat in front of us. We knew there something wrong with it when we saw it.
There where 4 questions running through my head. What is wrong with the boat? How and when did the clouds arrive? Where in the world did the sun go? What is happening to the boat now?
Now the boat was at an angle, and we were all staring in shock.
‘’Mom, what is happening to that boat?’’ I questioned my mom in a worried/panicked tone.
‘’No, clue,’’ said my mom with clenched teeth.
At that very same second the boat turned vertical and vanished beneath the water, into the pitch-black depths of the lake. We were so scared we didn’t know what to think.
‘’What is that orange thing bobbing up and down?’’ I asked.
‘’Ya, what is that?’’ my sister Macy wondered.
We quickly discovered that it was a life jacket and that someone was linked to it.
‘’Sir, do you want us to call for help?’’ inquired my mom.
‘’ No!!! Call my insurance agent,’’ barked the man.
‘’OK, Sir,’’ and so my mom did, but first she called the resort we were staying at for help. She didn’t want to leave him stranded in the middle of the lake without help. It wasn’t even 2 minutes before help came.
We left him with help. Knowing he was in safe hands.
We got back to the dock and got out of the boat. Each one of us got off the boat with a look of amazement on our faces.
That was the day I saw a boat sink!

Indoor Cup
It Takes All You've Got!
By: Amy W.!!
I pulled a quick move, to beat the last defender. I quickly ran as fast as my legs would carry me, and headed straight for the goal, tapped the ball to my right, and swung my foot and shot the ball! It was headed for the corner in the air. The goalie dived in a fast motion to block the goal but she missed the soccer ball, and hit the ground hard. It was a goal!!! Then suddenly the referee blew his whistle, end of game… we were headed for the finals!
“Okay girls bring it in,” my coach said. Everyone walked into the huddle around my coach. “You guys did a fantastic job, we need to work on our defensive skills a little more. But great work! Now if you go get something to eat, you need to eat light. A banana, a sandwich, and a gatorade would be great!” We were at Ames indoor soccer complex for the indoor Toyota state cup tournament. This was very exhilarating, especially because if we win this championship game, we were the indoor state champions! We all walked over to our parents. Most of my teammates were staying at the complex, so me and my family decided to stay too.
Finally it was time to warm up for our next game. Everyone was there and eager to play. “Okay girls let’s start warming up for the game,” said my coach, trying to get our attention. Everyone got their soccer balls out of their bags and we did skill drills. That’s where you have to dribble the ball around, and do moves, and also use all the parts of your feet to dribble the ball. It’s definitely not the most entertaining thing in the world!!! Once we were done with skill drills, we all stretched. Stretching is very important, because if you don’t, you could end up pulling a muscle, and be out of sports for a while! Soon the ref came over and checked us in. Ref’s always check to make sure everyone has the proper gear. They also check player cards and take attendance to make sure everyone is there. Finally it was time for the game to start. My coach assigned what positions we would play.
“Ashlee play center back, Ally play left defender, Riley play right defender, Rebecca play left mid, Maddie play right, Alyssa play center mid, Amy play up top, and last but not least Gracey play in goal! All right let’s go!”
“ARE YOU READY?” Screamed Riley
“YA!” Everyone yelled
“ARE YOU SURE!” Riley screamed
“YA!”
“VSA ON 3!”
“1, 2, 3, VSA!” Everyone shouted as we ran out onto the field.
As we ran onto the field, I could hear the parents cheering. The ref blew the whistle and I stepped up onto the line. The soccer ball was waiting there for me like every other soccer game. “TWEET!!!” the ref’s whistle went. I tapped the ball to Alyssa, and she passed it out to Rebecca, who dribbled it down the sideline. When she got close to the end line she crossed it over right across the goal to me! It was a left foot shot which isn’t the easiest if you are right footed! I took a chance and swung my foot. It was in the air! I felt like no one was around me. It was just me, the soccer ball, and the goalie! Finally the shot went in. I scored the first goal of the game! The other team took the ball back to the half line. The ref blew his whistle, and we resumed play.
By half time we had scored 2 points and we had held the other team to no points so far. My coach talked to us about what we were doing well, and what we need to work on during the 2nd half. Then half time was over. We all ran out onto the field. Now it was time to win all of my team thought in our heads! TWEET, the ref’s whistle went. We all resumed play and instantaneously started moving. The ball suddenly ended up by our defense, Ally tried to take the ball away from the player and somehow ended up getting a foul. It just went bad from this point on!
You may think soccer is a sport that doesn’t require a lot of yelling, and aggressiveness, but it does!!! Normally when a ref makes a call against your team, there is always someone who doesn’t like the call and starts yelling, then players get angry and become much more aggressive!!! Much yelling and aggression took place in this game. The awful thing about this call was that there was no foul at all, so technically the ref just gave the other team a free shot. The other team brought up their best shooter to take the PK shot. A PK is when a foul is made inside the goal box, and 1 player gets to take a shot with only the goalie being able to block it. She shot the ball it went soaring through the air. It felt like the whole complex was in silence, like the whole world was watching! She made the shot! My team walked at a snail's pace up to the half line in wonder of what just happened.
By the time the game was almost over, the score was tied
3-3 everyone was so nervous, and on their heels! There was only about 5 minutes left in the whole entire game. WE HAD TO SCORE!!!! Finally there was a break in the defense, I pulled a tricky but speedy move to get around the 2nd to last defender, I immediately made a pass to Rebecca, and we were in for a goal!
“SHOOT!” My coach shouted, Rebecca hesitated and took a last minute shot. We all stood there in wonder, all thinking please go in, please go in. All the parents were on their feet, thinking the same thoughts we were. At last the soccer ball hit the back of the net. It was kind of funny though, because all the parents jumped up in the air, cheering and shouting. I guess they were just as happy as we were. But the game wasn’t over yet, there was still time left on the clock. I high fived Rebecca on the way back up to the half line. The other team brought the soccer ball up to the line, and quickly resumed play! Shortly after the last goal we scored, the ref blew the whistle three times to signal the end of the game. We did it we were state champions!!!
Me and my team went to the trophy stand to get our trophies. This was a very exciting time for all of us. We all took a picture together holding our trophies. I really enjoyed this soccer tournament. I had a great time, we all worked together to win this trophy. We played our A game. We put in all we had to come out with a grand outcome, and we wouldn’t be where our team is today if it wasn’t for this tournament!

The Accident
The Accident!
By.Natalie E.
I couldn’t imagine why I didn’t wear a helmet, “now”, but then I was only five and I didn’t know any better. Still there I went. AAAHHHHHH… I screamed! I can’t even tell you what happened next.
I was at my friend Sarah’s house when it all happened. We were in her garage. I love going to Sarah’s she’s my best friend. We always have fun together. So I was so excited to play with her.
Our moms were in the driveway talking. Sarah and I were messing around on her bike and I said I wanted to ride it down the driveway. She said “O.k.” and so I got on.
“Do you want a helmet?” Sarah asked.
“No!” I snapped. I’m big enough. I thought.
“O.K.” said Sarah. “Ready, Set, Go!”
I zoomed down the driveway. “Wahoo this is fun,” I yelled. Oh no I couldn’t stop! I was freaking out. Across the street I went, luckily there were no cars coming. BAM! I hit the curb. “AAHHH…” I screamed as I flipped over. WAM! I hit my face on the curb. I thought the curb went through my face! All I could feel was pain and agony through my chin. I lay there dazed, crying. Our moms and Sarah came rushing over. What happened? I thought. My mom took me home, told me everything was all right, and gave me a bath to clean me off. All of sudden I got glassy eyed so my mom called an emergency nurse. The nurse thought I had a concussion and told us to go to the hospital.
Once we got to the hospital, I was in a room with no other patients. The room was small with blue wallpaper, no windows, and a pinkish red bed. There were lots of children’s books too. We found out I didn’t have a concussion, just a bruised tooth and face. I was laying there when Social Services burst through the door and started asking questions about me. “Oh my gosh.” I thought, “What are they doing here? Are they going to take me away?” They asked my parents why they had beaten me so badly. My parents said they didn’t. “So what happened?” Social Services asked my parents. My parents told them I had flipped on a bike. They didn’t believe my parents. So they decided to ask me what happened. I said I didn’t know. How was I supposed to know I was only five. They ended up leaving without me, luckily.
After that I just remember laying there thinking about why didn’t I wear a helmet? Then I got up and got a Strawberry Shortcake book and read it. It felt so peaceful and quiet, just sitting and reading quietly. Then after that I was just so thankful and I knew I was safe now. I loved and cherished that moment, forever.

Skiing in Colorado
Skiing in Colorado
Skiing down my favorite run, my body bulges. really do think that I’m on a professional racing run as it said.
“Slow down,” my dad shouts as I smiling shooting down the run.
I never had an open mind about skiing when my dad told me we were going.
Although my first run was royally hard. It was called “rookie.” kid of funny, but I do remember slipping a lot. Of course I soon got the hang of it.
The second place we went to was Cooper, which is now my favorite. My teacher got so frustrated with me that he gave me to the best teacher they had. That is why I’m so good!
Altogether I’ve been to Cooper, Loveland and Monarch. Monarch was the first place where I learned how to ski. It was just a tiny bunny hill. After that my teacher thought I could handle anything. Boy, was she wrong! I only went on beginner runs after that.
Loveland was ok, but it was a little bit hard. That’s also where we had the accident. We skied down the wrong run which got us to an expert hill! It was down hill so we no choice but to go. We tried to go really slow, but my brother slid right and was on a double black diamond and fell flat on his face, but the most important part of this memory is at the ski resort “Cooper.”
This there called “Treasure Trove” was so short that you could see the end. Although that wasn’t why it was special. The reason was my brother always said to me,
“Don’t go on that one” he always said.
“Why not?” I moaned.
“It’s narrow with lots of trees,” he said. That has always bugged me, but I’m determined to try it sometime. I’m sorry to say I’ve bashed in some trees in the process, but it’s all good.
Like I said before, I didn’t have an open mind to skiing. Now it’s my favorite thing to do by a huge margin! I’m also proud of myself for being so good at it. It feels great to be good at something that’s your favorite thing to do. Lastly, the most important part to this skiing memory is the “Eagle” run.
The this is there is to mountains two lifts, makes sense right? Well to get to the small lift the run is “Molly May Field” and Eagle for the big. The thing is Eagle leads to like twenty other runs. It’s even hard to run it all the way down. Obviously it’s the Main run or the whole resort, but it’s so complex! Anyway I can’t wait to go and get better next year.

We found our seats, the game had begun with the hot dog song this annoyed me so much I felt like leaving but it was the Yankees so I stayed it finally ended. The game has officially begun. It was horrid we were loosing 2 to 4 it had to be a miracle if they one it was the last ending Yankees to bat royals to pitch. The Big Day
The Big Day
By: Briley R. Date: 11.1.10
I woke up it was the big day. I finished packing most of the boxes then it was time to go. It was time to get in the truck. I was so excited to leave. But I knew I was going to miss that house. I hade so many good memories.
"Briley lets get in the truck." Mom said.
"OK on my way." I replied.
I guess it was time to go. I made sure I didn’t leave anything. I was really moving. I will miss this place. I can’t believe.......
"Briley lets go."
I got in the truck and closed my eyes.
"Briley where here." Mom said.
I sprinted to see what the house looked like. It is so much bigger then our old one.
“ I helped unload the boxes.”
I took some boxes inside and went back out to grab some of mine and took them up to my new bedroom. I stared to unpack I felt like I was starting my life over again.
I was so glad I moved. I went down stairs to get the rest of my boxes. I took the rest of the boxes to my room. I started to un pack my clothes Ding dong rang the door bell.
“Ill get it.”
Who could it be we didn’t know anyone?
“Hi we are your neighbors.”
“How old are you?” They asked.
“5?” I thought to my self, why are they asking.
“So is my daughter her name is Sarah.” Said the man.
“Where are your parents?”
What are these people doing here? I thought.
“Hi. We just saw me moving truck so we thought we should come.”
“Oh well thank you.” Said my parents.
“Well we should let you guys finish unpacking if you guy need any help just ask.”
“We will if we do.”
“Bye.”
I got to my room and finished unpacking.
“Do you want to come get some stuff to eat with me?” Mom asked.
“Sure.” I said.
When we got back from getting Subway something felt different.
“Mom this house doesn’t feel right.” I said.
“Its not going to feel right until you gets use to it. You better get to bed its been along day.” Mom said.
“Good night.” I replied.
I cant believe we actually moved.

When it is 2002 of June 4, it was my golden birthday. I woke up, pushed my cover off, and darted down stairs. I started to play on the swing set. It was time for lunch, I ran inside to eat when I got down I played around inside the house. I race around the house, I gasped for air! Out of nowhere everyone said happy birhday.
I open all my present. I went to bed after dinner. The next morning I went to a new foster parent. I was scare of them, ‘cause I didn’t now them.
I had a bowl of cereal that was Coco Puff. I went to preschool. I was on the bus and I puke, of the shaking on the bus. I saw my preschool, it was tiny. Michael and I went to another foster parent house to play. Then we went back to foster house that I was still at with Pam. One moth pass and we went down stairs we played at my dad’s workplace. I come up stairs and said adopt us. So dad did. I was excited.
I was sleeping in a car bed and saw the door open. It was moving back and forth. So the house was to small to live in and we got a bigger house. When Michael turned six he went to school and I went to my aunt house. In tell I was six years old. It was a few years past I went to k. I learned how to tie my shoes, count, spell colors, and my abc.
When I got home and I got a snack. When it was Saturday we got a dog. It was called sausage. We toke the dog in our house, we played with them.

What a Weekend
What a Weekend
By: Brianna B.
Date: 11/1/10
I couldn’t wait for the weekend to begin; I thought as I jumped off the bus and sprinted home. It is going to be so much fun. We were going to be at my grandma and grandpa’s house. Yeah I know what you’re thinking, what are you going to do there? Well it is so much fun. I’ll get to drive the tractor, sit in the combine, play with the kitties and much more. I remember when my mom mentioned to me that we were going to grandma and grandpa’s all these thoughts popped in my mind there were lots, but mainly I was thinking this is going to be so much fun! I can’t wait.
I dashed in the house and bolted up the stairs and finished packing. Then I ran back downstairs to say goodbye to my dad, who was leaving early for grandma and grandpa’s. I am going to wait here for mom to finish packing and then I’ll ride with her to grandma and grandpa’s along with my five-year-old sister Becca.
After we were all packed we headed our way to grandma and grandpa’s house. On the way there mom and I talked while Becca took a nap and I read my book. The second I spotted the road to their house I felt a leap of excitement! My excitement kept growing as we pulled in the driveway. When we got to the house I grabbed some of my stuff, like my book and opened the door to the house.
“Hello!” I yelled.
“Hi!” exclaimed my grandma.
We went and unloaded our things into the house. Once we were done with that I ran to play with the cute little three month old kittens. Becca of course was right behind me. We both sprinted to the barn/shed and there they were the cute little fuzzy balls. Of course Zack was the easiest kitty to catch or grab, he didn’t even care really. I kept petting him for awhile until grandma asked us to come in.
She wanted to give Becca a surprise. It was some dolls that grandma had bought. Becca was sooo excited. I helped her take it all apart.
After that was done, it was time for supper. It was so good. I can still taste the chicken. Yum! It was fun to talk to my grandpa, Uncle Dave, my dad, Becca, grandma and my mom. We got to laughing about the silliest things. We kept jabbering about my cousins Maddie and Mitchell and the funny things they have done. Of course I’d heard them a ton, but it is still kind of funny. Then my mom brought brownies in for dessert. I didn’t have one because I was so full, but it looked really good.
After that Becca and I sprinted back to the shed to try to catch the other three kitties. We only found three and only caught Zack with our luck, but still it felt so good to hold him and feel his little heart beat. He is so sweet! But I was upset that we couldn’t catch Stripe, who is gray with gray stripes and Jacob who is black and reminds me of Jacob Black in the Twilight series and Avery who is black and so cute. Once we were done trying to catch the kitties we bolted back in the house.
I drove the remote control car that grandma had got Becca for her to play at grandma’s house. I drove it around the kitchen for awhile until it was time to go to sleep. I was sooo excited for tomorrow to begin!
In the morning when I woke up everyone was down stairs. I sprinted down the steps careful not to fall on them they are steep. I came down stairs and spied the table all set with pancakes, eggs, bacon, and muffins. I had two pancakes, a ton of bacon, and a half a muffin. It was all so good! We started jabbering about the fields and laughing about all the silly things my family has done.
We were all talking and laughing again. While everyone started taking their plates in me, mom and grandma started bringing the food and the cups in the kitchen.
My Uncle Dave came and told me and mom some new that was hard to hear.
“Did you know our Jakey died” he asked us. (That is their dog.) Me and mom both stopped what we were doing and looked up at him and said, “No, when?” “Monday” Dave said. We both started to get tears in our eyes. “We think he had a heart attack” Dave said. “He was just laying there and Sophie still hasn’t got used to him being gone yet.” Dave said. “Oh, that’s sad! I said. “Yeah.” He replied leaving to go get in the tractor.
Later after we had finished getting the things put away grandma told us how she found out, which was by my Aunt Shanell and how my cousins Maddie and Mitchell had both cried. She also emotionally said when my other two aunts found they were sad too. It’s pretty sad she finally said before I ran out to the shed to play with the kitties.
Again I only found three this was starting to make me nervous. Where was Avery? That’s what Becca named her kitty. I dashed in the house a little nervous and told Becca and Grandma my news.
“Grandma do you know what happened to one the kitties?” I asked. She looked down and finally said.
“Avery got ran over by some friends of mine when they were coming for supper.
Becca started crying about it and about Jakey and I walked quickly upstairs. My eyes welted with water. Jakey and now this, it’s so unfair. I was even there the day that they got Jakey. He was just a puppy so he was a little wound up. His tail waging all over, but he was such a good dog. As he got older he didn’t get so wound up and he was inside the house more.
I remember the times I had seen him, the things I remember playing with him. I tried to remember the last time I had seen him. It was right after the Fourth of July. We were dropping Mitchell off, as we were driving home. It was also the first time I got to meet Sophie. They had got her because they knew it was almost Jake’s time.
Then Avery I remember the first time I saw her. She was the nicest out of all of the four. We played camp with them for days. Maci and I being the leaders and Becca and my cousin Gavin being the kids. We did games with the kitties and even made a clubhouse for them. It had chairs and towels to lie on the ground with.
And now she was gone. Why hadn’t she spied that car and got out of the way? It’s just so sad, poor Jakey, poor Avery.
To get my mind off things I looked out the window and saw dad coming up the hill in the tractor. I followed him until he came out of the tractor.
“Can I go with you?” I asked.
“Sure, but first will you go make me a sandwich and some chips?”
“Sure” I said as I leaped to the house.
I got ready two sandwiches, one for me and one for dad, two bags of chips and a few chocolate bars. Then without thinking my cell phone and sprinted to get into the tractor.
Once we got to the cornfield dad said “You want to drive now?”
“Sure!” I said with excitement. I drove up the hill until grandpa filled the wagon up. Then on the radio thing in the tractor I chatted to grandpa about maybe coming in the combine after I ate. So I drove some more. It was really fun.
Then we had to stop because there was a support stake for a power pole in the field. It was like a metal long stick. Dad had to hook a huge long chain to the tractor to pull it out. He kept backing up until all of a sudden a huge pile of dirt came out. It was long and huge! It was way longer than we thought it would be.
After that we got on the radio and exclaimed to my grandpa that we had got it out. He was pretty happy, grandpa said thanks and dad and I drove up the hill. (I drove and dad told me where to go) up another hill. Then we stopped and waited for grandpa to fill us up again.
While we waited we ate our lunch. It was really good, although the chocolate was the best. We kept on waiting for grandpa. I was so excited to be going in the combine with grandpa. It’s fun to watch him drive it!
Then grandpa came on the radio and wondered if I wanted to come join him in the combine to give him company because he was getting a little sleepy. Of course I said yes so him and dad both stopped.
I grabbed my things which were my vitamin water, a chocolate bar and my sweatshirt, but then when I opened the door I remembered my phone. I set it on my sweatshirt and came down the ladder.
I looked up and saw grandpa coming down the combine ladder. I was trying to hurry to him but it’s kind of hard to get through a combined cornfield. So I was jumping, running and being goofy. When I got to the combine grandpa was waiting for me.
He said, “Go to the driving seat you’re driving!”
“Really!” I said smiling.
I had never driven the combine before. Grandpa showed me how you drive and then asked “You ready?”
“Yep” I replied with excitement. At first it was really hard and grandpa had to help me a lot, but finally I got it.
“Oh brother” my dad said on the radio.
I just rolled my eyes and kept driving. I was pretty good me and grandpa decided. Let me tell you at first I was pretty scared about driving, but once you got the hang of it, it was pretty easy!
When we finished that field we had to switch seats. I sat down on the seat and immediately started jabbering about middle school, how it is way better than elementary and how you get your own freedom. We talked about all my classes, like what I’m working on in each one. It was so much fun to talk about all that.
Then when I stopped jabbering I started looking for my phone. It wasn’t on my sweatshirt like it was supposed to be. Grandpa said he hadn’t seen it when I came in. I looked around the inside of the tractor, but still no luck. Where could it be? I know I had taken it with me when I got off of the tractor.
I could feel my heart pounding. What if I had dropped it? Don’t think that way I told myself because it has to be around here somewhere. Grandpa radioed my dad and wondered if it was in there and he said no. Now I really started to panic, my heart beat even faster and I could feel sweat on my forehead. I kept looking thou.
Grandpa eventually said, “How about we go back to where you switched over to the combine and just turn off the tractor and the combine and try to call it using my phone.
“Okay, I just don’t know what happened to it.” I said trying to be brave.
Grandpa and Dave both stopped and we went to the area where we had switched. We all split up and started looking. I turned my back to them while I looked. I was so mad at my self for losing it and I felt bad for making Grandpa and Dave stop working to help me find my phone. I kept calling knowing it won’t help because it was on vibrate and only had one bar left.
I kept holding back the tears but it’s really hard to do that. Finally I called dad and told him we needed his help. He said that he would be down there soon. He also said that Mom, Grandma and Becca were on their way to help look. I kept looking until they got there.
The second they got out of the car I ran to Grandma and burst into tears. I had tried so hard to hold them back but it was hard. I kept thinking about the first time I got my phone this summer and all the pictures I’d taken with it and all the places it had gone with me.
“I just don’t know what happened to it.” I finally managed to say.
“It’s okay, maybe we will find it or maybe not, but it’s going to be okay either way. Just think about your dad with his phone.” She replied sweetly.
“What does it look like?” Grandma asked.
“It is bright blue.” I said.
We all split and took a row all looking for my phone that I dropped. Finally we told the guys to go back to work and we’ll keep looking for it. If you have ever been in a cornfield after it has been combined it is so hard to find anything since there is dust and corn husks everywhere.
I thought it was impossible. I thought I had already learned my lesson last week when I had left seventy dollars in the mall with my brand new wallet and someone had turned it in, but no I had to learn it again. It’s like my dad when he was in Singapore this summer he had lost his brand new phone that he bought for the business trip and he isn’t usually forgetful, either am I so this is so not the normal.
Then my mom noticed the tractor tracks in the field and I remembered that we parked the tractor right across the field from the pole that we had pulled out earlier that day. So we started looking in that area. We looked for another ten minutes and just when I was about to give up grandma screamed with excitement. “Brianna!”
I turned around as quickly as I could. She was holding my phone in her hand. I blinked making sure I wasn’t dreaming and sprinted to her as fast as I could.
“Really!” I yelled as I sprinted over to her.
There it was my blue phone. I hugged her so tight.
“Grandma you are such a good finder and you never give up!” I said excitedly.
“You are so lucky!” mom exclaimed.
Grandma is probably such a good finder because she had four kids, but still that is amazing.
I am so so lucky I thought as I rubbed off all the dust! Then we leaped back in the car just as dad came around the corner in the tractor. I ran as fast as I could to him holding up my phone and smiling with excitement.
“You found it!” he said.
“Yep Grandma did, but all of us helped.” I said. It took about an hour to find.
We jabbered some more about how lucky I was and then dad had to go. We got back in the car and called my grandpa and Uncle Dave and told them. They all said the same thing that I was so lucky. I felt really lucky, first the wallet and now this! On the way home that’s all we talked about. I felt so good! It could have been ran over, but it wasn’t. It was dead, needing charging and dusty! I’m so lucky!
After we had gotten back to grandma and grandpa’s house I helped grandma and mom get the table set for supper.
“Is this where the potatoes go?” I asked.
“Sure.” Mom said kindly.
After we had everything on the table the guys came in to eat. You can tell because the noises of the tractors are really loud. It’s like a buzzing sound. They came in laughing wanting to hear my story.
They were of course laughing at me and saying “You’re so lucky” and “Did you learn a huge lesson or what?”
The truth is I felt really lucky it felt like it was just a dream. Yes I learned a huge lesson, be careful with your things and they will be just fine as long as you care for them just like a pet.
So the next morning before we left to go home I said goodbye to my cute little kitties and jumped in the car. As I waved goodbye to Grandma I was thinking what a weekend!
